Shadow Play

I slid off the deep end of her sigh
and slipped into her womb of flies.
This is why I stepped over my shadow,
to stay ahead of the darkness
but only my shadow can see around corners.

Her claws dug deep and ripped
a new man from his spine,
she pulled me from my spine
to laugh at myself: the crippled spy.

The numbness poured from my valves
and my conscience slipped and staggered.
She appeared innocent and
almost simple, almost motherly.
Bewitching me, revealing me
like spring sun on a night's ice.

Far below myself I returned to see
something moving behind her curtains,
something clumsy and untamed.
My shadow whispered of a demon
trying to smoke out the flies.

I climb back in to pull my spine;
to walk without strings.
I open her curtains as her eye shut
to reveal herself to me,
but there was nothing.
Only a night with reaching stars
that screamed as I pulled the curtain.

I turned and walked away from my shadow
leaving it behind a curtain.
Returning to her simple slumber
to smoke out the flies in her womb.
