Good Night
Amy's waking up to a half-empty bed
Looks around for her other half
It's me, I'm by the window, looking out at the rain
Another winter's come to freeze the dark
She says she's ok
I wish I knew the truth
She shivers and stutters over the cold
I guess we were children in ice
She wraps her arms around me like a blanket all tight and warm
Says "I'm sorry..."
What for?
"I'm sorry I'm leaving"
Why?
"Because you deserve better and I'm freezing"
Amy's the chill in the air that shivers on my spine
Intangible and momentary
I'd love a sunny day but Amy's trapped in midnight
Good night, my summer love lost
Lexi is marine in a way or two
Like the water, constantly flowing, changing
I tend to drown in oceans
I can never keep up with the changing of the waves
If I don't change direction, the ship goes under
But my memory ain't so great and I'm used to the westward tides
Maybe we're fools for thinking we could float?
I guess we were children in water
She pulls away, retracting her hand, she didn't like contact anyway
Try touching water when you're hot-headed like fire
"I'm sorry"
She doesn't care for apologies
Ship's going down, Captain goes down with the ship
I don't deserve better, now I'm freezing
Lexi's the rain from the sky dousing my fiery temper
Flowing without pattern
I'd love a sunny day but it's raining Lexi again
Good night, my love oceanic
Rose is blooming with a love unknown
And I, the Sun, that helped her bloom
A pretty face can hide oh so many thorns
An embrace could never be so painful
She wants the best
For me? For her!
I could never be a flower in line
I guess we were fools in gardens
Her idea of love was just a little twisted
Perhaps I'm the flower that had to bend, to break, to see light
"I'm sorry"
Almost like she means it
Her thorns spread a poison that just, just tore me apart
Lesson learnt on the fragility of the heart
Rose is the pain from the thorns in my tomb
A Rose by any other name is still a dangerous flower
I'd love a sunny day but then Rose once more blooms
Good night, my withered love flower
Annie's always thinking of something celestial
She's something of a star
She shines through my midnight sky
But you never know which stars are still there
She says it's ok
We all know it's not
She's part of a constellation and I'm a supernova
I guess we're antitheses in space
We're a different kind of star-crossed lovers
The kind destined to fizzle into oblivion
"I'm sorry"
She knew she had to do it
"There's no other way"
As she snuffed out my star, I understood
Annie is the star faintly lighting my dark
Visible yet so far away
I'd love a sunny day but she made night feel brighter
Good night, my night-sky love
Kathy's waking up to a half-empty bed
Looks around for her other half
It's me, I'm by the window, looking out at the summer
My day starts with her
She says she's ok
That makes us a match
We're bathed in a warmth from the Sun through the glass
I guess we are lovers in summer
She wraps her arms around me like a blanket all tight and warm
Says "I'm home"
Me too
"I love you"
And I you
Because we're safe in the afterglow
Kathy's the warmth of the summer's midday
Soft, ever-present
At last, a sunny day, forever in embrace
We never have to say good night
Looks around for her other half
It's me, I'm by the window, looking out at the rain
Another winter's come to freeze the dark
She says she's ok
I wish I knew the truth
