Reverence
I built a temple in my chest,
A sacred place for you to rest.
Your name is stitched beneath my ribs,
A whispered vow, a life to give.
I am the altar, you the flame,
Devotion bound in endless pain.
And every breath becomes your prayer,
A hollow hymn left hanging there.
You write your scripture in my veins,
A litany of sweet remains.
Each word you speak, a curse I crave,
A holy wound, a shallow grave.
I begged for light, you gave me night,
And still, I bathe in your delight.
Consume me—
Take my flesh and bone.
Devour me—
Leave me overthrown.
Your love’s a fire, I’m the ash that falls,
A reverence that burns, consumes it all.
And every scream becomes your name,
A fragile plea, a lover’s shame.
Consume me—
Take my flesh and bone.
Devour me—
Leave me overthrown.
Your love’s a fire, I’m the ash that falls,
A reverence that burns, consumes it all.
I am the lamb before the knife,
A sacrifice for endless night.
You take my sins, you take my fears,
And drown them in your endless tears.
I am undone, my will erased,
Yet somehow, I still call this grace.
And when the fire dies away,
Will I remain, or will I fade?
You are the wound I long to feel,
A reverence too dark, too real.
Exhume me,
Move through and
Consume me—
Make my soul your own.
Break me down—
Leave me all alone.
Your love’s a fire, I’m the ash that falls,
A reverence that burns, consumes it all.
