Look At Me

[What Desperation Looks Like]

Glass shards traced
Something worse
Than these scars on my wrist.
I chose to draw blue hearts over those
Other caramel skins,
To prove that something tainted by me
Still had the potential to look beautiful.

When I spoke to the moon,
I didn’t complain.
I asked it to send someone my way
That would look at me like I wished you would.

I wanted someone.
Someone to look.

Look at me like God took time to sculpt me,
Look at me like no boy had ever done.
Look at me like I was the only girl that mattered.
Now I think it didn’t matter I thought you as the one.

I’ll give you all the dime
For making me love you without end,
Because somewhere along the line,
I learned to love who I was under the contempt.

Though, now I know you must’ve found someone else.
It must have hurt this thirteen year old heart,
But I still know not
How one moment,
something could stop and something could start.

Still,
I long for someone to see me.

Let it be.
It can’t be you anyway.

But for any boy tomorrow
I give my heart away to,
Please just look at me.
