Walking Corpse

If only these burning tears
could leave copper trails down my cheeks.

If only what made my eyes bleed
stayed carved across my body.

If only the consuming past
remained reflected in my iris.

If only my heart stopped beating casually,
though my soul, long ago, had died.

Becoming this walking corpse,
breathing life out in a slow demise.

Will you then see how your arrow shattered me,
broken beneath the surface?
