Slow Burn
Burning holes
In every photo
And sweater that still smells like you
Leaving behind only ashes and the smell of cigarettes on my finger tips
That pick at my cracked lips
As I watch them ignite the final glimpse of you
Ocean eyes reflecting orange flames
Gripping every last page that wrote the years entangled in memories and growth
And always ended between unwashed sheets
That still smelled like her
A feeling so familiar, yet so far away
With arms around you
Skin to skin
But seeming oceans away
Where I was left to drown
While you swam to her
Tragic-
That this is where it ends
Submerging lower
Into water that feels like fire
Gasping for one final breath
Only to be filled with smoke
Leaving me singed
My face turning blue
Reaching for you
As you disappear
In a violent and slow burn
In every photo
And sweater that still smells like you
Leaving behind only ashes and the smell of cigarettes on my finger tips
That pick at my cracked lips
As I watch them ignite the final glimpse of you
Ocean eyes reflecting orange flames
Gripping every last page that wrote the years entangled in memories and growth
And always ended between unwashed sheets
That still smelled like her
A feeling so familiar, yet so far away
With arms around you
Skin to skin
But seeming oceans away
Where I was left to drown
While you swam to her
Tragic-
That this is where it ends
Submerging lower
Into water that feels like fire
Gasping for one final breath
Only to be filled with smoke
Leaving me singed
My face turning blue
Reaching for you
As you disappear
In a violent and slow burn
