Hope
It occurs to me that I’ve gotten old, perhaps even out of touch. Every generation eventually gets put out to pasture, and their ideas die with them. It’s nature, it’s the ebb and flow of progress. Time passes us by and we have to pass the torch to the future.
The only problem is the human psyche doesn’t wanna let go of being relevant. Because they would then have to face mortality. Don’t believe me? Two words. “Baby Boomers” them some people who don’t wanna let go. I jest. lol. I shouldn’t say it that way though, because when using blanket statements it comes off as arrogant and foolish.
Not everyone in that generation is like that. My parents are Boomers, and they are nothing like the stereotype that gets spread around constantly. Which means there are more like them to varying degrees of course. We aren’t facsimiles of each other.
I sometimes feel like all these categories are just too much. Generations are categories a way to be kept under the government's thumb. And to make up teams to compete with each other. Politics are the same, two sides pitted against one another. My point is it’s not a healthy system. But it’s the one we practice.
I feel like we’re all just books on a shelf. I know what you’re going to say, “Damian, that’s so analog you gotta articulate in a more digital kinda speak.” Ok, we’re all just like numbers in some computer file. Binary code on the inter-webs.
It makes things sterile and organized. Music is a prime example. Look how many sub-genres we got now and it keeps on growing. Anything they don’t understand, let’s make another genre. It’s gotta be uniform and up to snuff.
I’m gonna die trying to figure out human behavior, myself included. I guess I’m saying how much propaganda can one digest in a lifetime and still keep their critical thinking intact. Carlin, said it best: “We’re all fucked. It helps to remember that.”
We’ve been programmed to conform, it’s us rebellious souls that make life hard for the status-quo. Hopefully keeping them awake at night because they don’t have complete control. Hey, I can dream can’t I. It’s obvious in their current rhetoric that’s based in fear and negativity.
Everything is divide, subtract, take away from and that’s the language we got being spewed everywhere currently. If that’s what you hear constantly some of that is bound to stick in peoples minds. Whether you intend it to or not. That’s how big of a problem the whole situation has become. In my opinion that is, folks.
When I read the commentary of my fellow writers here at DU, a lot of it sticks with me. For instance, Pete_25 said something about trying to stay hopeful through it all the chaos. I think I know what he means, it’s believing good outweighs bad. I’m paraphrasing of course.
I surmise that’s why I write about the subject matter I write about. I do it because I’m hopeful it reminds us to try and be better. And maybe If I say it enough times and keep reminding everyone enough times, things will get better. That’s my motivation my muse. Did you really think I’d get through a whole write without mentioning her.
That’s how she stays relevant and by extension, I remain relevant. But not in some malicious kinda vibe. We just phone it in from the pasture that’s became our home. For what it’s worth I think all we got left is Hope.
Peace, Love, & Lennon.
