Faithful Alice: A Lyrical Ghost Story and True Tragedy

- Faithful Alice: A Lyrical Ghost Story and True Tragedy -

What is a blessing, when so many tragedies hath befallen,
Leaving a soul to believe that they walk eternally accursed...
Cleaved from Paradise's light, to walk in places of darkness?
Loving, lusting, craving, bleeding, dying, and still returning! Sin.
The chaos of this world multiplies, until it is well swollen,
Pregnant with horror, until the very earth hath become bled...
And the innocent scream, in equal parts fear and also distress.
If I hath become Hell, then I walk alive yet burning. Fire within.
I walk within those flames that rage inside my heart endlessly.
Was I ever that innocent, that pure, that terrified in my youth?
So as to be stricken by the things around me that my eyes see...
Both of this world and others, reminding me of past loves lost.
And past hates remembered, and everything I tried to forget! Pain.
Yet I am forced to remember, things both fair and so uncouth!
That the devil in me may as well hath won its' greatest victory...
Whilst every happiness I enjoy, I paid with in the heaviest cost.
This life was the worst at times, dreary as storms that beset. Rain.
I feel the rain upon my soul and know its' gloom-filled dignity.

Dance and sing! Sing and play, my love. Alice, sweet Alice. Wake up!
Unforgotten, never forsaking, remaining forever at my side. There to abide.
I am broken within! For the rest of my days. Oh Alice, sweet Alice! This song is for you.

In day and in night, I am haunted by a fair one taken too soon,
Her love is with me still, and she parts never from my side at all...
The accident that claimed her, fair Alice, torments me to my core.
I see her form, feel her touch, hear her voice, know her kisses! Soft.
Yet she lives no more, her ghost my eternal companion; I swoon,
Thinking of that moment of her injury, and of her sadly fatal fall...
Wondering what I could hath done to save her life, whatever more.
Yet her spirit remains so vibrant, a reminder of all her bliss. Aloft.
I am born aloft in those moments when she comes back to me.
Sometimes I hate this world that tore sweet Alice from its' face,
Too soon, too late to save from the ending of such a beautiful life...
People in the world today are too busy with hatreds and with war.
They cannot know what torment a solitary tragedy can bring! Agony.
The loss of laughter, of wonder, of brightness; every perfect grace,
Found in one sweet form that might have become my darling wife...
Until she fell and struck her head, and then she breathed no more.
I held her, I wept, I died myself that day; she could not sing! Worry.
I worried; what will I do without her, my inner voice said sadly.

Dance and sing! Sing and play, my love. Alice, sweet Alice. Wake up!
Unforgotten, never forsaking, remaining forever at my side. There to abide.
I am broken within! For the rest of my days. Oh Alice, sweet Alice! This song is for you.

We cannot control fate, cannot know when time is come around,
For the endings of things that should never have had any ceasing.
We always think we have forever, and perhaps in a way we might!
For though she sleeps in her grave, 'neath lonely earthen ground,
Her ghost stays at my side out of love, her kindness still pleasing.
One day Alice and I shall walk together into the hereafter's light!
To a heaven just for us even if it be in Hell; where revelry abounds.
And until then, our love remains as it once was, ever faithfully.
Faithful Alice, I remain not abandoned after all I've been through,
I remain not abandoned, because of thee; thy love is the greatest.
A maker of miracles, a whisper in shadows, and a kiss in the dark.
The night is our time, and in it you come to me, dream come true,
Beyond midnight's hour, thy power eases my bitterest loneliness.
We dance and we sing, we play and we whisper whilst dogs bark,
In the late hours before the scornful sun comes, and skies are blue.
My ghostly lover, I crave no other but thee; thou art all, to me.

Dance and sing! Sing and play, my love. Alice, sweet Alice. Wake up!
Unforgotten, never forsaking, remaining forever at my side. There to abide.
I am broken within! For the rest of my days. Oh Alice, sweet Alice! This song is for you.

I need not the day's harshness when in the night we come alive!
What is sunlight to the dead, which in such light need not thrive?
My body may breathe, my blood may be warm, but I cannot strive,
To live in a mockery of what I once was, to pretend I remain alive.
If I hate the world's evils, but love one pure soul, that is enough...
To remind me that there yet remains within me the purest of love.
You bring it out, you make it live, even when things become tough.
Alice, sweet Alice, breathe life into me and let that life be enough.
Mend what was broken, let thy kisses be the token of salvation!
I want no other heaven than thy company, nor any other nation...
Where humans congregate, if you are not in it to bring jubilation,
To my lonely heart, to my fallen soul, needing only thy salvation.
Ancient and modern, living yet dead, I walk in the shadows alone...
Seeking redemption for thousands of sins; but for one I'll not atone!
Forbidden, yet bidden by heavenly passion, fashioned as if of stone.
Love between two such as we, infernally damned, eternally alone.
Yet never apart, for you live in the darkness, you warm my heart!
Bringing fire to the ice, reminding me of days when in playful art,
We together, composed a melody that now we sing, never to part...
For though I too am dead, you find new ways to reach my heart.
You make it beat, and when I bleed with every cut I give myself,
I cry out to you, and your love saves me; you restore me to health.
Alice, sweet Alice, dead but restless; more precious than wealth...
I a broken but whole, and you make me feel once more like myself.
For the rest of my days. Oh Alice, sweet Alice! Faithful and true, this song is for you.
