Beyond the Surface

Afraid to know the depths within,

We hide behind a crafted skin

Where dreams lie bound, unseen, untold,

In shadows cast by fears of old.

So used to life in packaged form,

Microwave meals to keep us warm,

Drive-thrus, fast fixes, tasks outsourced,

Our feelings mapped, our minds reinforced.

We let the world define our pain,

Describe our joy, explain our strain,

Avoiding truths too raw, too real,

A shortcut past the need to feel.

Not bound by horoscope’s design
Or glibly written, borrowed lines
For shallow words can’t set our course,
Nor tame the depths of our true force.

Safe we stay in cages small,

Afraid to rise, afraid to fall;

But in that ease, the cost is steep

We lose the depths we’re scared to keep.

Don’t be afraid to live and feel

It’s what shapes us, makes us real.

We are not bound by others' minds,

Nor by the fears they leave behind.

Let go the need for quick, refined;

Taste life’s edges, undefined.

For feelings raw and deeply true

Are more than what this world construes.

Break the mould and feel it all,

Rise with courage, risk the fall.

In our own light, we heal, reveal

Defined by what we dare to feel
