Reflecting With The Reflection
Upon the water’s glass I gaze
To meet myself in mirrored hue
The flaxen hair, like summer’s blaze
The eyes, cerulean and true
I trace the line of cheek and chin
This sculpted mask that time bestowed
In shadowed light and shape therein
Where fleeting fears and wonders stowed
Are eyes too wide? Or fair enough
To pierce the world’s unyielding stare?
They seem to hold a shade, a bluff
A mystic depth beyond compare
Yet strange, this face both mine and not
Its every line so known and new
As if some half-forgotten thought
Awoke beneath that sapphire hue
What secrets lie behind this gaze
This form the Fates so finely cast?
Am I a dream in daylight’s haze
Or shadowed self from ages past?
Yet in these eyes a strength doth gleam
A silent fire, a tempered grace
I meet myself, as in a dream
And wear with pride this fateful face
To meet myself in mirrored hue
The flaxen hair, like summer’s blaze
The eyes, cerulean and true
I trace the line of cheek and chin
This sculpted mask that time bestowed
In shadowed light and shape therein
Where fleeting fears and wonders stowed
Are eyes too wide? Or fair enough
To pierce the world’s unyielding stare?
They seem to hold a shade, a bluff
A mystic depth beyond compare
Yet strange, this face both mine and not
Its every line so known and new
As if some half-forgotten thought
Awoke beneath that sapphire hue
What secrets lie behind this gaze
This form the Fates so finely cast?
Am I a dream in daylight’s haze
Or shadowed self from ages past?
Yet in these eyes a strength doth gleam
A silent fire, a tempered grace
I meet myself, as in a dream
And wear with pride this fateful face
