Image for the poem Ashes

Ashes

I waited on the full moon

It was autumn, the air was thick and restless

The leaves burned red in the light of the moon

I hid the black rose in my back pocket...

It was for you, and you only

I waited, and waited...

Soon the blackness surrounded me, but I kept waiting

I know you will come, I just know it...

It turns out you came that night

Just not for me...

I should have known, he was always better than me

When you were in pain

I was the only one who came to warm your heart...

But, I was never an option

Just a last resort...

I look at the time

It's midnight...

I take my lighter out of my pocket

I get sparks, and then the dim flame...

I set the nearest tree on fire

Now,it is really burning red

I grab the rose from my pocket, and throw it in the flames...

The next morning I come back to stare at the ashes...

I can see it...amongst the ashes

The rose did not burn...

And neither did my love for you...
