Image for the poem Swimming in my Nightmares

Swimming in my Nightmares

Swimming in my nightmares

Hammock of dirt naps
Gazebo of my dreams

Singing with a cardinal
Chirping in the tall tree of Feasterville

Picking up a morsel
Hoping it sets me free

Hunt for the next idol
Billy is not asleep in my dreams

Grooving on a great riff
Shouting from rooftops

Falling asleep at the wheel
Picking up broken pieces

Trying to put me back together
Learning from nature

Not trying to be above
The birds and the bees

Fire pit of imagination
Drowning in red wine

Picking and strumming
Under the stars of a lost planet

I’m another galaxy
Peering through the lens

Of just what’s left of me
Shooting star on the periphery

Not figuring out just what’s
Wrong with me

Searching in the embers
Pieces of a lost me
Trying to patch together
My broken family
