Lying Sorrows

 
At the foot of a mountain
Every precipice a false summit
Every peak stands tall but is still just a valley
Tending to dying gardens on repeat
Every season of our glory is temporal

Every breath we take but a means to an end
Caught in routine ruts and count downs to moments of fleeting beauty
Constructing a perishing kingdom
A slow fix for a sinking ship
Capsizing, it’s a losing battle to salvage the vessel

No escapes but for rescues
Living like this is the end all be all
Making our beds in transition
This waiting room isn’t home to us
Our every nightmare is a dream waiting to come true
Looking for hope in stark contrast to the fatalism of our lying sorrows

Death is a voiceless and fading shadow
Perspectives war for our eyes
Do we set our sights on dusk or dawn or a horizon that beams brighter than the sun
When all is a shadow, nothing is a threat
Expectations, anticipations, do we heed the voice of courage or fear
Finding strength in the moments that we need it the most
Don’t underestimate the power of the grace that works in you

Building momentum one day at a time
Every timeline begins in seconds before we scale the weight of the years we put behind us

Will the end dignify the cost of what we’re living for?
The pain of it all is made of what we can and can’t control
But every obstacle is just another step in the way of the right or wrong direction

As to medicate or heal?
I draw up the blueprints in a therapy of journals to refine focus
Learning to process as I flex to bear the weight of my debts
What is the cost of living but the cost of dying?
Resistance the tide that shapes character
Despising not these days of our small beginnings
I rejoice with eyes set on the joy that is set before me despite the pain of the cross I bear
When every trial is just another joy to endure to purify our faith and patience
