It is new
It shines
It spins
And flashes
Blue
Purple
Pink
It plays
Music
And it dances
They gather to watch
They rush to the edge of the stage
Screaming
Encore
Encore
Encore
It was beautiful
Pure and soft
White as flame
Fresh and sweet
They ran their fingers down its side
Greasy trails left behind
Impossible to wash out
Slowly the song
Skips and wavers
Its stained
And shivering
And crying
It was new
It was young
Trudging through the mud and bones
It walks into the belly of the man
It didn’t know any better
It didn’t know anything
It was pure
And they needed to taste it
Feel it
Break it
It is freshly rotten
Discarded and forgotten
Accompanied only by the maggots and hands that lingered so long they stuck
The voices that screamed so loud they still ring
So dark
It shines
A tale as old as the arch
It coughed out its last hurrah
Throat full of waste
It wonders
Was it ever truly beautiful
Or was it simply
Just
