Image for the poem Adonai

Adonai

lingering where I feel safe
in the shadows that echo my name
the wind stirs softly
the trees look on solemnly
salutations dearest sentinels
they watch me to be sure I am safe

the wildflowers whisper he's here
and I know Adonai is on the premises
the trees give him their report
while the flowers are in agreement with me
the weeds are flowering beautifully
and they are protective over the garden blooms

this has been a long debate between Adonai and I
with the tares and the wheat
someone had to be cast as the bad guys
to bring about prophecy
I felt bad for Judas a vessel made purposely to destroy
after he fulfilled his role
a vessel wrought for destruction

the many are called the few are chosen
what a bitter disappointment to be called
and then when you stand to be judged
sorry lady you didn't meet the cut
and by the way, the wives' tale about everyone is a sinner
and God can't be around sinners
I guess he'll be eating alone since we aren't going to just pop up
and tada you're perfect if I get up there and everyone is perfect
I'm going to get out because the Stepford Society doesn't need me

plus I brought a carton of smokes with me
and I would like to be directed to the sexual side of heaven
and the smoker's section in other words I want to know the reality

Adonai I'm sure you had nothing to do with the people's misconception
had they been reading the book right they would understand
you had to conquer your fear of death out there in the dark
you rose to the top as the top dog you established you were God

made a kingdom there were some issues you told me about
with beings taking your kindness for weakness
about the previous civilizations
driving you to destroy them

now Adonai there's some real simple beings who don't fear you
'that's their first mistake the things you've done is to scare the shit out of them so they show you proper respect but Father I've been to churches and people were praising someone but you weren't there so I didn't lift my arms for the preacher's benefit

I've been paying attention I follow your movements if I raised my hands to people please I would be in trouble
p.s The trees love to gossip I've been good for the most part I'm grateful I met you the real you Adonai you just want brutal honesty from me
I'm so happy you are real and obtainable
because I got only myself good or bad
change isn't likely and I know you're not looking for any more actors
those roles are already cast
