A Liar’s Love
You swallow but you can’t stomach the pride you choke upon
And despite the paradise of a kiss there is no lust worth the gratification that sends a man to hell
Burning alive with a smile while you put up with the life you chose just to never have to admit you were wrong
The pain starts now, in the aftermath of an overrated pleasure
When it’s the high that leaves you in a place of a more devastating let down
You fell for it but you mask the side effects in the shell of your empty defense
Blaming the past on your current state of misery
It’s not the life you left that you regret it’s the fact that what you have now fails to compare
Keep lying to yourself till the denial resounds true enough to make believe
When you’re playing home in a house made of cards with walls of jokers
Taunted by the structure like a padded room made of a duality of memories
Every joy is haunted and your gold is corroded when the treasure proves worthless
Tell me, are you happy? Was it truly worth it when it all plays out to reveal
You traded authenticity for the illusion of something that you thought was real
Everything comes up lacking and you play dumb
Willfully ignorant for what you do not know
Poor, miserable, broke, and naked
Material enrichment that forfeits truth is decay on the root of every seed you sew
Returns on this harvest of an investment born of poverty on every front
You traded your best life for what you’ve got on the empty promise of better, now you’re taking the brunt
You got what you thought you wanted but it’s never enough
Insatiable as appetites glutton for concealed punishments in the arms of a liars love…
