Dinner with the devil

The devil came, to dinner one night.

He was a man, all dressed in white.

Light in manner, confessed a sinner.

Proved good manners, all through dinner.

Soon the devil, showed up often.
So thought that, I could help him.

He seemed to share, my every thought.
He filled up all,  the empty spots.

To look the devil straight, you see.
A man that's vulnerable, I his need.

And since my thoughts, are always good.
I'd protect him, as I should.

Then the day, he showed late.
Dinner cold, made him irate.

Forgiveness for him, offered easy.
He took hold, then he beat me.

Disbelief caused, mass confusion.
What was truth? What illusion?

Time proved many times, the worst.
Exposed him cruel, violent, perverse.

No more dinners, do I serve.
Barely was,  my life conserved.

Robbed me of, life good and level.
But, after all,
                he was the devil.
