short poem to a long dead friend
flower ripped by its roots
from the earth
the longing of longing long
gone
clouds part
the day falls from the
sky
standing out back on the
patio
thinking of the sounds of
seagulls overhead
the carnival coming to
Paterson field on a warm
May evening
finishing a good book
and feeling like you're
saying goodbye to an
old friend
time slips unnoticed
out the back door
and falls into the cracks
on the sidewalk and
disappears
Tim,
the summer showers
have returned
and I strain to hear your
name called through
the raindrops
