Burden of the mind

Flames of regret engulf the pyre of a life unknown,

a man ponders his decisions and the path that has lead him so far from his wish,

time like a raging river has carried the man down years of emptiness,

hope for the dream is but a fairy tale, a fond memory the man holds dear,

he reach's into his chest and grips the source of his pain to mollify its influence,

like poison it taints the mans mind despite his efforts and breaks away his hope,

was it even real, was it just a dream or was his mind just intoxicated by the idea.

Shades of grey and paths of thorns the man endures a mental labyrinth of the past,

the great beast of burden roams through his mindscape hunting for the mans full attention,

faced with his burden he turns to stone and falls for his desire to rewrite his wrongs,

such a foolish man to reach for such a empty dream, seduced by the memory,

the man falls to his knees defeated staring down into a reflection of the outcome of his actions,

his heart once whole now stolen by his beast of burden locked away in a time unattainable.
