Counting Threads Instead Of Raindrops

I remember as a child we lived in a two bedroom trailer, and in the dog days of summer ( mid August) I would get so hot in that aluminum oven that I would take mom's cushions and stack them in front of the only window air conditioner we had, then I would press my nose in the cracks of the brown plastic vent that covered the front, take a blanket and drape it over my head and the cool air outlet until I had my very own air conditioned bubble.
As I relaxed there in my own personal Alaskan oasis, my mind would wonder off to make believe, I wondered somewhere where I could be so cold, then have a love there that held me and kept me warm...we kept each other warm.
I mean I was only like five years old lol, why was this a thought of mine?
Now as an adult I still love cranking the AC on high, along with my industrial fan, throwing on a snuggie and cuddling under the blankets, where it's just him and I and the natural warmth made between us.
Actually, as I sit thinking back, I remember working in the hay fields on hot summer days when I was a teenager and coming in, eating dinner, then my grandmother would shut all the blinds (that house was so cold) then I'd get a shower and go crawl into bed under mounds of blankets, smiling as I fell asleep in the early evening hours.
There's a different kind of sleep that happens when you are burnt to a crisp and tired from working outside in the heat all day.
My body ached yet felt so good, and that cold house created the perfect environment for a snooze.
I don't know why all this is on my mind, I guess maybe because we are in the middle of an August drought, thank goodness for air conditioners!
Now if you will excuse me....I have some snuggling to do. ;)
