Blood of Vandals soaketh the sand,  
Gothic hordes sent back to Rhineland,  
Ascendancy of th' Exarchate,  
Imperial triumph to celebrate
 
August fruits of conquest borne,  
Cataphracts rebuff barbarian scorn,  
Spilling German blood at Ravenna’s gates,  
An end to a century of shame and hates
 
Last of the eagles, sword of Rome,  
The legions at last are marching home
