My Dearest Cosmonaut,
How could I hate you?
You are morning fog and early sunsets,
Empathetic and real.
You’re the only person who I feel if I rested a hand on your shoulder,
I wouldn’t fall through.
You are warm and soft,
Shivering in the cold air.
I ache to be near you,
Sweltering cores pressed together.
You are so talented,
You’re the first rays of sun that peek through my windows.
I’d hate to change a thing about you,
Spending hours cataloging your endearing quirks and captivating features.
I am taller than you,
But I always feel like I’m looking up at you.
I am overcome with it,
You are art.
Tipping over the edge,
Jumping right in.
You are brave,
But too humble to admit that.
Can’t you see?
Every movement takes my breath away.
You’re looking at me,
I get to be seen by you.
The world doesn’t deserve you,
Pressing softly at the hollow of your throat.
How?
How could I ever hate you?
I don’t understand.
How could anyone ever hate you?
How do you not know how beautiful you are?
In body and mind,
You glow.
You could fly so high,
But you're afraid of heights.
You laugh in the dark,
Why do I want to see you so badly?
It only ever exists in our quiet moments,
Where our eyes meet and I can tell you're smiling without even looking down.
I want to tell you,
You are unlike anyone I’ve ever known.
I want to tell you,
You’re the only person I’ve ever wanted to hug.
You’re the only person who makes me feel safe.
You’re the only person who makes me ache like this.
You’re the only person who makes me want to be.
Soft auburn hair and glimmering brown eyes,
Elegant figure and graceful movements.
Almost like a dance,
We giggle like schoolgirls.
I want to scream it to you,
You are everything all at once.
‘Friend’ is so inadequate,
I would die for you.
I don’t love you like a partner,
I wish I could’ve been the one to have that privilege.
I hope you find someone who can give you what you need,
I have no doubt you will.
I don’t deserve you,
You choose me.
Over.
And over.
And over.
You choose me.
