The Things I Miss
I saw you today...
Passed each other by
Like the strangers we've become.
Sobriety is becoming on you,
Even in the undoing of what used to be us.
Words catch in my throat
Of things better left unsaid.
A younger, crueler me
Would run my fingers through your beard
And pull your face closer to mine
For one more dive into hell.
The taste of unrequited love is a liar,
But it is so sweet.
It tastes like gravel road sunsets
At the edge of nowhere
Two dumbass kids
Meeting up to steal pieces of heaven
In the midst of dope crazed realities.
I close my eyes imagining
Your hands wrapped around my neck
And softly pray for forgiveness
As I retreat back into the safety of my own heart
Gingerly closing the door behind me.
Passed each other by
Like the strangers we've become.
Sobriety is becoming on you,
Even in the undoing of what used to be us.
Words catch in my throat
Of things better left unsaid.
A younger, crueler me
Would run my fingers through your beard
And pull your face closer to mine
For one more dive into hell.
The taste of unrequited love is a liar,
But it is so sweet.
It tastes like gravel road sunsets
At the edge of nowhere
Two dumbass kids
Meeting up to steal pieces of heaven
In the midst of dope crazed realities.
I close my eyes imagining
Your hands wrapped around my neck
And softly pray for forgiveness
As I retreat back into the safety of my own heart
Gingerly closing the door behind me.
