Not a poem, but a song - "Children Chase the Night and All That Comes With It":

Verse 1:
Oh, weren't we shooting stars,
Flying, dreaming, crashing, burning,
Weren't we a drunken daydream,
Living faster, oh so faster,
Weren't we just children in costumes,
Giggling, kicking, shrieking, crying,
Aren't we young pretenders,
Living a life our parents can't afford for us,

Chorus:
I want to live as fast as we can drive into the tangerine sunrise,
And I wan to go down in a haze of glory, smoke and sweat,
I want to live my roaring twenties at the age of just fifteen,
I don't want to grow up yet I'm not the child I seem

Verse 2:
Isn't it simple; I've given up trying,
To achieve my childhood dreams,
Isn't it easy to check into a hotel,
And smoke, not live but dream,
Oh, I won't exert myself 'cause it hurts,
I'm living in a hedonist haze,
And if I can do enough to forget,
Then I can speed things up,

Chorus:
I want to live as fast as we can drive into the tangerine sunrise,
And I wan to go down in a haze of glory, smoke and sweat,
I want to live my roaring twenties at the age of just fifteen,
I don't want to grow up yet I'm not the child I seem

Verse 3:
Isn't it idiocy that pulls us,
Closer, closer to the living nightmare of,
Nights spent sleeping it rough,
"Hang thy young baggage, and speak not to me",
Oh we're living the child's dream and the adult's trembling night-terror,
And if we know what's good for us,
We'll ignore it and carry on,

Bridge:
'Cause there's no chance you can save us any more,
The innocent children have long since become,
Blowout, angry, discourteous, diehards,
Living a drink-seducing life,
Oh, it wouldn't be quite as fun without you,
Oh, it's simply not fun without you,

Chorus:
I want to live as fast as we can drive into the tangerine sunrise,
And I wan to go down in a haze of glory, smoke and sweat,
I want to live my roaring twenties at the age of just fifteen,
I don't want to grow up yet I'm not the child I seem

Chorus:
I want to live as fast as we can drive into the tangerine sunrise,
And I wan to go down, further down, in a haze of glory, smoke and sweat,
I want to live my roaring twenties at the age of just fifteen,
So we can speed it up with treacherous haste,
I don't want to grow up yet I'm not the child I seem,

Outro:
I don't want to grow up, I'll stay young forever it seems,
Speed it up faster, I'll stay young forever it seems,
My heart's beating even faster, so fast, I'll be young forever it seems,
One of these days I'll be young forever and I'll be stuck living in a teenage dream,

It's about how, in the transition from childhood to adulthood, people turn to substance to cope.
