On Wings of Green
Emerald hummingbird
flitting lightly on the breeze
You drew my eyes dancing a mere 2 yards from me
But there you did not stay
Your flickering wings further entranced my gaze
As your curiosity drew you near
Then nearer still
I, a frozen statue in the morning heat…
Did my salty sweat smell sweet?
What drew you so close, within arm’s reach
To chirp and tweet
Studying my awestruck eyes
As you fluttered side to side
Those precious seconds highlighted my troubled day
Briefly exchanged appreciation
You generously shared before
winging on
to poke a tiny spider suspended in its ornate web
You’ve offered me a fresh endearment for my missing piece…
Will he, too, flit into my moments
Send my heartbeat racing?
Was this Emerald message
Brightening my day
Delivered from a red hibiscus
Far far far away?
I’d like to believe it was
On wings of green,
a message:
I DO love you
flitting lightly on the breeze
You drew my eyes dancing a mere 2 yards from me
But there you did not stay
Your flickering wings further entranced my gaze
As your curiosity drew you near
Then nearer still
I, a frozen statue in the morning heat…
Did my salty sweat smell sweet?
What drew you so close, within arm’s reach
To chirp and tweet
Studying my awestruck eyes
As you fluttered side to side
Those precious seconds highlighted my troubled day
Briefly exchanged appreciation
You generously shared before
winging on
to poke a tiny spider suspended in its ornate web
You’ve offered me a fresh endearment for my missing piece…
Will he, too, flit into my moments
Send my heartbeat racing?
Was this Emerald message
Brightening my day
Delivered from a red hibiscus
Far far far away?
I’d like to believe it was
On wings of green,
a message:
I DO love you
