The Sandman's Regime

Something in me must be broken
as I try to lie down at night
My dreams all turn into nightmares
that keep waking me up alright
Ones where I drive semi again
with no idea where to go
Ones where I've found some strange places
without a good map to follow

Ones where my logbook’s out of date
like that test I haven't studied for?
And NEW problems seem to find me
I've never encountered before
Ones where I get into a WRECK
that would be hard to justify
I never reach my goal you see
before I wake up FYI

My anxieties in real life
must keep those tanks topped to the brim
Always nervous about SOMETHING
where my attempts to sleep turn grim
The logic of these dreams shut down
where the awkwardness reigns supreme
I can't even win for losing
underneath the Sandman's regime
