Flawed Perfection
I can almost see perfection
In your worried stutter and
Joy in that brittle smile
Even if I only see it once in a while
You always say the wrong thing
at the wrong time
in just the right way
And there’s a certain melody
to every apology
You’re a creature all your own
I wish I were an exhibitionist
Or a museum curator
Or just plain brave
And could put you on display
But the world might not see
The beauty in the cracks of you
That let the light shine through,
They’d think you broken and wouldn’t see
The mosaic that you are to me
But don’t worry I like you even if you’re cracked
I think you’re superhuman even if you bleed
I know you’re perfect even when you fall
Because you never stay down
When your eyes tear up,
At random moments in the day
And I think you’re crying no matter what you say?
Watching you blink them away
With those sweeping eyelashes
just makes my day
In your worried stutter and
Joy in that brittle smile
Even if I only see it once in a while
You always say the wrong thing
at the wrong time
in just the right way
And there’s a certain melody
to every apology
You’re a creature all your own
I wish I were an exhibitionist
Or a museum curator
Or just plain brave
And could put you on display
But the world might not see
The beauty in the cracks of you
That let the light shine through,
They’d think you broken and wouldn’t see
The mosaic that you are to me
But don’t worry I like you even if you’re cracked
I think you’re superhuman even if you bleed
I know you’re perfect even when you fall
Because you never stay down
When your eyes tear up,
At random moments in the day
And I think you’re crying no matter what you say?
Watching you blink them away
With those sweeping eyelashes
just makes my day
