Broken Bodies
Prayers
So many prayers
Going up to whoever will listen
Every time I see an ambulance
A homeless person
A dead body
A teen with dark circles
A child with long sleeves in heat
A woman with a Medusa tattoo
A man with a drink constantly in his hand
A boy who always chews gum
A girl who has bloody fingertips
A busy suicide hotline
Filled with miserable souls
A kindergartner next to
An empty gun
Bullets lying in their best friends body
Scared eyes communicating
While underneath desks and chairs
Keys not only used for cars
But for safety
For self defense
Muffled sobs
From the woman next door
Who has too much on her plate
Animals being tossed away
Like toys
Overgrowth of plants
Taking back what was theirs
Not knowing whether you heard gun shots
Or fireworks
Welcome to our life.
