Eternal Tie

Tonight is the last night of loneliness
Everything meticulously planned, just as it was in my dreams
Each detail of this night has been carefully crafted
It must be perfect for there can only one attempt at this
Rose petals sprinkled about and music turned low
Champagne poured in the only 2 glasses I own
Each chair strategically placed
Hoping that upon entry all that’s seen is my face
The clock is ticking loudly over the sound of my heart beat
Time to start, this new romance quickly approaches
Ive coveted this for longer than I can remember
This companion whose touch is all Ive longed for
I can feel the butterflies of excitement and fear
The clock is getting louder
A screaming reminder of what is to come
Nerves a wreck, I dim the lights
Too late for doubt on what comes next
I take my place upon the chair
Adorned with my eternal tie
Quietly whispering good bye

Author's Note
Sometimes I get a series of images in my mind and I get fixated on parts of those images until I write it.  In this case I was fixated on the image of someone in a coffin with a tie on.  How silly to dress so proper when you are dead.  Notably the tie, who likes to wear a tie.  The symbolism of that to me screams work, work that robs us of joy and individuality and by doing so our lives.  So I traded to coffin neck tie for a noose…
