Mother

Becoming a mother saves me
I love my mother more
for the sacrifices she made
and the neglect she endured

I’m happy to be at the giving end
my children have a mother
and grandmother
with broken chains, healing scars

I’ve longed for the days
of giving back the kind of love
I never fully felt

Author's Note
This poem walks through my emotions I feel being a mother. My childhood was rough and my family endured a lot (at the hands of my abusive father). I specifically hold emotions about how my mother was treated and what she did for the family and her marriage to keep it alive.
