From another time and war
it must be 70 years since I read this book
by Eric Maria Remarque
I was young at the time and tended
to be absorbed when reading after reading
the novel it became alive
I added to the story, dared with my modest
voice disagrees with a chapter
I wanted, the writing to sound differently
more physical action, perhaps.
the ending, though, was always the same
a lone soldier and a stray bullet
Alas, I no longer remember books so well
