Poverty Gospel

Cast your crowns
Throw away your stones
You can’t see the sheep for the wolves you make them out to be
The accuser shouts the loudest
Raising up self righteous insurrections of YouTube slander
Your ears itching to demonize on the premise of a conspirators will to pander

What if the devil you think you see is a projection of perspective
Delusions of your own hypocrisy causing you to march to the beat of your own directive

Everyone is spiritual and religion is defiled
But which spirit are you of when you’re an only child

Loan wolf prophets of narcissistic repose
When everyone else is deceived and you’re the only one that knows

Gauging by appearances materialism of the inverted
Minimalistic fasting, the superficial depths of the perverted

Throwing off the burdens of such providence to starve the camel through the eye
Can you get your heart through heavens door when your head is too big for the needles thread?
Knit your fabricated hopes on the ways you live opposed to learning how to die
When anorexic wallets are starved to adorn the appearance of the dead

You’re the darling of the grave wearing envy on your sleeve
Virtue signs and wonders ushering and manipulating to believe

It’s so easy to make a banner of those you prosecute on the terms of eyes that are ciphers of the greedy
When discernment is relegated to what’s socially acceptable, I guess we’re only saved when we are needy

Crying wolf in shepherds clothing in the battle you wage against this flesh and blood parade
When prayer is an abandoned war
Holiness on the lips is the way you masquerade
Just who is it you’re fighting for?

Greater exploits traded to greater exploitation
Are you known for your love or for the way you frame the narrative of merit?
If you’re telling the truth then so be it but if you’re lying
Your words are as empty as your father when deception is all that you inherit

Poverties of our overt righteousness
You are not pure until your poor
No one quite gets it until they are abased
Because God forbid in earthen vessels we have any kind of store
Are you broke enough to qualify for the providence of grace?
