YOU CAN’T HELP ME
She looks at me with her blackened eyes,
In the subtle moonlight I can see she has tears streaming down her face.
Her lips are stretched in a manic grin,
But her bottom lip is shaking with the weight of her emotions.
I want to apologize but my voice comes out far louder than I intended,
And she's crying harder.
I try to touch her shoulder, to show her I want to help her,
But she's jerks back like it burned.
I promise I want to help,
I try and tell her this but she just keeps screaming at me.
She's walking away now,
Her head in her hands and her bare feet stumbling through the night.
I want to get better,
I scream,
I told you I'm trying.
She stops suddenly,
Her breath is ragged and intense as she trembles in the shadows not even 10 feet away.
Only with words,
She said,
Those are just words.
