Hummingbird Feeders and Men
Oh, how I love them seeking my nectar
making me feel wanted and desirable
and such joy watching the beating of wings
as they try outdistancing introspection
but eventually i grow tired of the constant need
to appease the images of their minds
even that would be ok if they could put two
emotional thoughts together at the same time
I still put sugar water out in the feeder
knowing what I'll attract and sometimes not caring
I'm far from perfect or self-sufficient
needing the attention as much as they need me
so we all win on this shallow level
that I only think about on the saddest days
then I just watch the light on little wings
gleaming like emeralds and rubies in the sun
making me feel wanted and desirable
and such joy watching the beating of wings
as they try outdistancing introspection
but eventually i grow tired of the constant need
to appease the images of their minds
even that would be ok if they could put two
emotional thoughts together at the same time
I still put sugar water out in the feeder
knowing what I'll attract and sometimes not caring
I'm far from perfect or self-sufficient
needing the attention as much as they need me
so we all win on this shallow level
that I only think about on the saddest days
then I just watch the light on little wings
gleaming like emeralds and rubies in the sun
