I Will Remember Today
I think most
have walked the edge
the one separating is and isn't
a world of competing sensations
or the cloying tasteless grey
Some walk the edge as ritual
and a daily addiction
seeking reason
to pick up the burdens
of a lifetime of sin and regret
just carry it another mile
I have been this person
in many ways I still am
to live each day as the last
and in that final denial of humanity
something grows unforeseen
The flowing, caressing water
of a still pool
or the evening breeze
cooling the blistering day
taking shoes off aching feet
and the sweet oblivion of sleep
simple pleasures that grow
to encompass the world
For tomorrow will surely find me
staring into the abyss
yet in that moment
I will remember today
have walked the edge
the one separating is and isn't
a world of competing sensations
or the cloying tasteless grey
Some walk the edge as ritual
and a daily addiction
seeking reason
to pick up the burdens
of a lifetime of sin and regret
just carry it another mile
I have been this person
in many ways I still am
to live each day as the last
and in that final denial of humanity
something grows unforeseen
The flowing, caressing water
of a still pool
or the evening breeze
cooling the blistering day
taking shoes off aching feet
and the sweet oblivion of sleep
simple pleasures that grow
to encompass the world
For tomorrow will surely find me
staring into the abyss
yet in that moment
I will remember today
