Mae Means
Candy
and flowers,
macaroni art and don't forget the
silly coupons you made in third grade.
Picnic at Grandmas, fantastic pies and salads.
Enough to hold you down till Fathers Day.
Smiles and laughter and not a whole bunch of depth thereafter.
But now it's white carnations,
scrunched faces and tears.

"Smiles and laughter and not a whole bunch of depth thereafter." -I've always been fascinated with the way that the little fleeting moments, the throwaway memories, are the ones that somehow seem most important in the long run. I also like the way you break up the first few words, almost easing the reader into it. Excellent work here, simple yet not shallow.
