New Beginnings
New beginnings
Constance and Dirk worked hard for the next few days on how the business could become more effective and the creative. Collecting new prospects for donors took a little effort as some, like Dirk, Lydia and Penny found that highlighting the benefits of a longer life and the sex with their vampire master or mistress got certain people eager to join up.
As Constance had centuries of experience in getting full vampires to take a small risk for what could be eternal life and the sex and the pure taste of blood was only marred by the vampire hunters that came and went.
Some families took up the cudgels from their parents or grandparents of chasing vampires as a family trade. Dirk looked at this from a different point of view. He realised that most hunters believed in some kind of religious life and would give them surcease from worrying about the devil as they sincerely saw vampires as spawn of the devil.
Dirk knew that his love and mistress was an atheist as the idea of gods and devils was laughable.
He had arranged to meet Aubrey to begin the history of vampires and the families that had grown over the centuries and those that ceased to exist or had failed to thrive and the whys that had led to such diminished families.
“Thank you for your time for this project as I have spent a little while looking into your family tree and I find it fascinating.” Dirk said.
Aubrey responded “You will have only seen what we have allowed to become public knowledge my boy. After we have chased away the cobwebs you will see a much better and clearer picture which is why I chose you after talking to Constance.”
“I will begin with why my second tier of vampires began to wither and die off. That will shine a light on some of the early scientific knowledge which was often wrongly written.” Aubrey said, “I discovered that early medicine could not cope with the complexity of vampire hormonal adjustments which needed to be considered from another angle. The change that occurs when the blood flows across the connections between the brain and a certain vitamin in all human blood is the key and I engaged the services of biologist who became the most gifted of all I have met.”
“My second tier did not have the linked gland that could make use of the vitamin as it flowed across the gland which is part of the blood drawing system in the fangs,” he said, “and as this did not become apparent until my biologist came to be a part of my team and my fifth tier vampires. He spotted the missing link very quickly and he would have earned a doctorate if one had been available at that time.”
Dirk asked the question, “How long ago was this?”
Aubrey replied, “It was 1588 and in the time of the plague I knew becoming a vampire would protect many people who were not vampires so my fifth tier became the largest tier I ever had.”
“You will meet Theodore when he gets back from a trip to Haiti. He is fascinated in voodoo and why this is a part of Haitian heritage.” Aubrey told Dirk
“Do you think this could be related to vampires?” Dirk asked.
“I have had the same thought but never with any conviction that would make me want to chase such a shadow, “Aubrey replied, “Theo will delve deeply and have a definitive answer.”
Constance picked up Dirk from Aubrey’s place and took him to their original meeting place for a meal and promised him to an exciting night after they completed the meal.
