Landlord Alan
Alan came early this morning
to fix the roof
Alan's facial tone was glum,
I looked closely
I observed that his right leg was slightly limp
Alan said:
"I can't walk well
because I feel pain from the right waist to the toes"
then he pointed to the painful spot on the old jeans
with the second finger,
In fact, Alan, who was very sturdy,
cheerful and enterprising,
Today, seems to have become more child-like
walking and talking and eyes softer
as time goes by
as soon as I saw Alan walking away,
I thought of the bottle of water
he would only accept it,
(as I had done for years)
I quickly opened the car trunk and took out it,
walked quickly,
handed it to him
Alan's answer is always the same
"Thank you!"
I went to do my work and came back,
also Alan was walking to his car
after fixing the roof
He was struggling to walk nicely
I don't want to disturb his quiet features,
so I just tried to pass by
but I couldn't do it
Then, I asked, "work was done?" unexpectedly
voice was loudly and powerful
(before work voice was weak,
but after work it became stronger)
I asked once more,
"what is the secret?",
(a moment of silence)
I felt how much Alan values his work
I whispered, “I look up to you.”
Alan nodded
as he walked towards the car
heading to Brooklyn in New York
he was walking with it
in one hand
without drinking it all,
no matter how hot the day was,
Alan never drank my gift all
at first, I thought
it was a miser's core
but getting to see each other
I began to feel
it is a way of not forgetting the gratitude
to who gave it furtively,
although it is an insignificantly
little things.
