the darkening mind
the darkening mind
When the sun had done its duty and the day cooled
it was time to go to the shops for food and a few
bottles of beer: this afternoon, I decided to walk
along the gulch, a scar in the landscape that led
to the road and saved about ten minutes of walking
time down at the bottom hot and in an unpleasant way
and held no promise of a cooling breeze
the ground was littered with dry twigs that crackled
like someone was walking on them
No birds were flying around, nor any insects
the gulch a scar of dead tissues where nothing grew
coming out of this depression, the dog waited and
together we walked to the shops
