Blinded By Love

In the summer of 1950, Dallas, Texas, was abuzz with excitement. Seventeen-year-old Ruth, with her sun-kissed hair and radiant smile, had won a local swimsuit contest, sending ripples of admiration through the community. Her parents beamed with pride as their daughter became a local sensation, gracing various service organizations with her presence, captivating hearts with her charm.

Among the admirers was Thomas, a dashing young man in his mid-twenties. Entranced by Ruth's beauty and spirit, he found himself drawn to her magnetic presence. Despite being eight years her senior and recently married, Thomas couldn't resist the allure of Ruth's innocence and beauty. Concealing his marital status, he pursued her and swept up in the throes of desire and infatuation.

Ruth, raised in a household where freedom and liberal values reigned, embraced the attention from Thomas, unaware of the shadows lurking beneath his charming facade. Their clandestine meetings filled with whispered promises and stolen kisses soon blossomed into a passionate love affair, igniting a flame within Ruth's heart that she had never known before.

Blinded by love, Ruth surrendered herself completely to Thomas, basking in the warmth of his affections and the illusion of a future filled with dreams and possibilities. She reveled in his tales of wealth and privilege, mesmerized by the world he painted for her, a world far removed from the modest comforts of her own.

Thomas introduced Ruth to other members of the Dallas upper class. One of those individuals was a woman called the Queen of Frogtown.

Author's Note
I wanted to fill in some missing pieces in Ruth's story with my imagination. I've written this account of events in my great-grandmother's early life and have another one to follow this that delves deeper into her and Thomas's first sexual experience together. Pic is a street photo posted on a community page that was said to be of Ruth in Dallas. The tentativeness of her stride caught my eye.
