Love at a Banquet

I deeply wonder why you
I steeply pay for it

I dearly send my heart
You spew it back

You sit at this feast,
this banquet at which

we are all guests

Steal all the best food
Blame others

So, why do I still
long to breathe with you?

I sip my wine
Pick at bits of chicken

You eat too many profiteroles,
then belch,

wipe your chin,
and saunter off

Until the next carnival of food
Until then, I'll pretend I'm hungry

Pretend I'm not weeping
That I'm loving the banquet

That you are... That you're not...
