light & shadow
it's fascinating to me
how perspectives change with exposure
how light lands
which features become most prominent
more sharply in focus
the deceptive nature of shadow
how it drapes
its kiss upon a half-turned face
is it a blush or a bruise darkening flesh
standing partially in the shade
only half of what's there is actually clear
step forward a smidge & the back is fully hidden
shrouded by mystery
is what isn't seen even real
...or illusion
moving deeper into the unlit space
until nothing is truly visible
merely the outline of a highlighted shape
darkness bathing the rest in a gentle caress
further still & no illumination reaches
nothing remaining of any definable features
left then to the imagination
the mind's eye...as it were
again...perspective
do you see a mysterious patch of deeper black
alluring in it's abstract attraction
or something more sinister
it's all about lighting & how it refracts
what it touches...
where it moves...
and where it doesn't
