Image for the poem Robin Red

Robin Red

Red breasted
plump and round
soft feathers gray
as steel
marching across
a cold wet ground.

Suddenly stopping
what does it hear
head slightly cocked
listening, listening
what is that sound?

Unsuspecting
wiggling in the darkness
an earth worm, long
moving down below
a few tugs, it's gone.
