Desert Prayers
Crawling across
the barrenness of my soul
slowly
three feet then rest
an eternity of choking sand
Palms worn raw
red handprints mark the passage of time
as vultures circling high above
waiting
for the end
I pray for the first time
in a voice that's never been used
Dear god make me blind
I cannot look at the smallness of life
shutting my eyes against the love I lost
and sins needing to be paid
Yet something makes me continue to crawl
through this desert of my existence
reaching, hoping, praying
To find love one last time
the barrenness of my soul
slowly
three feet then rest
an eternity of choking sand
Palms worn raw
red handprints mark the passage of time
as vultures circling high above
waiting
for the end
I pray for the first time
in a voice that's never been used
Dear god make me blind
I cannot look at the smallness of life
shutting my eyes against the love I lost
and sins needing to be paid
Yet something makes me continue to crawl
through this desert of my existence
reaching, hoping, praying
To find love one last time
