It's a really strange feeling.
Introducing the new reason to the old one.
She is the original redhead,
Her skin a canvas for her heart.
She was the reason I liked you.
She left me years ago.
But then she came back.
There's no love there anymore.
We just like to have fun.
So when you asked if I was coming out.
I saw my perfect opportunity.

She sat next to me in the corner.
Held my hand, stroked my thigh.
I wanted you to turn green with envy,
Hate her, warn me against her and vice versa.
She doesn't know me anymore.
You do, too well.
But you just didn't care.
Because the person who is the new me.
Was doing the same.

Out of the 4 of us, sat there, holding hands.
I was the only one jealous.
She whispered in my ear,
Made circles on the back of my neck.
She knew what was hurting and still she stayed.
She knew what I was trying to do.
Maybe that's why she's the new you.
She plays in my mind games,
Makes me feel important.

You stuck me at end of the table,
Far away from adult conversation.
Kept out of your loop.
And every time I glanced at you.
I glanced for a second too long.
And she'd cough to get my attention.

I'm trying to cling on to the friends I once knew.
Before my place at the adult table was usurped.
