Bhutan Glory
He pinned his butterfly to the wall
and framed her face with his hands;
his elusive Bhutan Glory.
It was her eyes that caught his desires first
emerging from the shadows and crimson fire
two great moons, rising to overtake the sky;
his grand paragon of beauty.
His lips eclipsed hers
dipped in an inferno of unquenchable thirst.
Wings in lace fluttered around his waist
and wrapped him in a chrysalis of lust
giving shelter to the loneliness
from the monsoon that came
with keeping her pinned to his wall.

The Bhutan Glory is a rare species of butterfly (previously endangered due to the destruction of habitat). It is most notable for its beautiful wing pattern with the appearance of eyes.

I've read this a bunch of times but I'm lost. I know it's a butterfly. but ... hm? i do like it though.
So the butterfly is the metaphor, but in a literal sense there is an actual scene being depicted of a couple. The "pinning" on the wall is something that butterfly collectors do. The collector in this poem is someone who has collected women like butterfly and has pinned his prize butterfly against the wall. The descriptions in the first half are both descriptions of the actual butterfly and also the way someone might describe someone's eyes (with makeup, the shadows etc...). There are other aspects of metaphor as well, the lace wings are essentially lace tights wrapping around his waist, which is probably the most sexual aspect of the poem. The ending is the misery and depression brought to both as she is left "pinned" on his wall and he is still lonely from his exploits.

holy crap I never would have gotten that. That's amazing that you came up with that. Thanks for the explanation. Sometimes it helps me to hear an explanation of a poem by the writer themselves when its meaning is slightly vague.
