Image for the poem Sweet Sixteen

Sweet Sixteen

In the dance of youth, I turned sweet sixteen,
Already I’d been tempted by love's subtle gleam.
Did I feel regret or a sad haunting tune
Because I had shared my young body too soon?

Intimacies scattered like petals in the dirt.
My life was so littered by a past filled with hurt.
Each kiss that I gave seemed to cover my sadness.
And the loves that I made became my own madness.
