Image for the poem Christmas

Christmas

I remember the Christmas lights the best
decorating our tree with dazzling colors
so shiny next to the tinsel

the brightly wrapped packages
and my dreams of what would be awaiting me Christmas morning
I would watch all night waiting for Santa to come
bringing gifts for me and my sisters
I could barely stand the wait

until then we baked Christmas cookies
and made lists for the man himself
my dad was my favorite part of the season
he loved Christmas and would always go out of his way
to make it beautiful for us

come christmas morning we would gather around the tree
family would come over
there would be football on tv

eating our ham and catching up
my little sister running to the living room nude
so excited by the gift she received
then laughing with my other sister about it

playing with the toys Santa brought
so many dreams came with those toys
it was the seventies
it will never be the same

so I bid a nostalgic goodbye to Christmas past
and wish you Happy Holiday one and all
