Safe place

After a life filled with disaster and turmoil
And things that would make anyone's blood boil.
After heartache, betrayal, and pain
All these years I'm starting to feel whole again.
I've built bonds based on trust and healing
I've broken bonds negative and demeaning.
I've laughed, cried, and lashed out in anger.
But never with intent to be a danger.
I'm mostly past all of that now.
And it's because of you I can look back and say "wow".
Many have helped before you came along.
But few have proved to be as steady and strong.
I'm thankful you're mine each and every day
You give me courage to speak all I need to say.
You give me motivation when I think there's none.
You help me strive for more when I think I'm done.
You are my safe place, my partner to whom I'm married.
