The Soul-Crushing Cosmos
"No rational intelligence rants against reality."
-- the poet a non-romanticist
*
From simple things, all complex things evolve,
the simplest things the quantum dust in space,
the force and matter bits which soundly solve
the genesis of us, the human race --
the "you" and "me" reduced comprising naught,
save space and tiny quantum building blocks,
the atoms, chemicals, and cellules wrought
by evolution's process orthodox --
the undirected flux without a brain,
and thus without a purpose or design,
its being but an endless causal chain
sans love for any lyric rhyme divine --
or fondness for a faultless sonnet writ
by countless quantum whits of sense and wit.
*
Contest: Twisted Sonnet
Sponsor: Rew
Form: Shakespearean Love Sonnet to Physics 101
Major Poetic Technique: The Irony of Reality Harsh
Theme: Beyond all rational doubt, at the quantum level, orthodox evolution reveals
a non-conscious universe uninterested in "me" and "you." How twisted is that?
